A Little lesson in seasoning and pairings.

A Little lesson in seasoning and pairings.

Understanding Mise en Place

So today, I’d like to talk a little bit about synergies with leaders and subs. Often times I think the difficulty with Team Building for most people come from the fact that there are just SO MANY INGREDIENTS (units/monsters) and it’s absolutely overwhelming! I’m going to try to cover first, the understanding of Pairings with key ingredients (leaders), then, some flavor profiles for your entire dish (team)

So I pair Gatorade with Spaghetti and season with peanut butter…right?

So to start, this post won’t address what’s “good” or “bad” as a key ingredient, we’ll save that for another day. This is learning to know that you pair something like a nice Merlot with your Steak. As an example, many would consider this unit:

Yeah, most people would look at her and say, “ugh, that’s like the worst thing to eat, ever.”

Except when you understand how EVERYTHING goes together as a whole you do ridiculous things like

And that is why it’s important to know these things.

Identifying your Main Ingredients.

So to start, your main ingredients can be broken down into 3 components, Carbs (HP), Protein (ATK), Fat (RCV). You’ll want a good balance of everything for a healthy and tasty dish.

So too much HP without enough RCV means you can’t heal. Too much ATK without any HP or RCV means you’ll just glass cannon and die. So let’s take the above pairing Example:

Balanced type cards HP x2, ATK x2. Balanced type cards ATK x3, RCV x1.5. ATK x2 at 6 combos. ATK x0.5 for each additional combo, up to ATK x3 at 8 combos.

As you can see the first ingredient has a mix of Carbs and Protein(HP, ATK), while the other one has a mix of Protein and Fat(ATK, RCV).

This is one way how this pairing was able to defeat this dungeon and may others of that type.

One big thing that it tells you is that the seasonings need to be Balanced, on to the seasonings!

Seasoning your dish!

Almost every time you’ll want to season your dish the way your main ingredient talks to you, sometimes you’ll want a balanced type seasoning, othertimes you might want a mixture of rainbow seasonings. Every seasoning you add needs to work well with your main ingredients! If a main ingredient says it needs hot peppers (fire/red orbs) and you put in vinegar (blue orbs) as a seasoning (unit) you’re going to have a bad time.

Sometimes you’ll want to season to taste based on the judge (dungeon) For example Scott Conant(bosses with resolve), loves his meat and potatoes, so don’t mess up your dish when you serve it up to you like making a vegan plate!(bring Follow up attack or a way to deal with resolve!)

Now, let’s take a look at the basic seasonings, we will get into advanced seasonings (Awakenings, Inherits) in the future.

Change Water orbs to Heart orbs. Enhance Wood & Heart orbs. +6% per orb, up to +180% for full board. All attacks become multi-target for 3 turns. Increases time limit of orb movement by 2 seconds for 1 turn. Change left-most column into Wood orbs. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn.Change all orbs to Fire, Wood & Heart orbs.
Assist with Fat (RCV)Helps with Cooking Time (Time Extend active, Mass Attack buff)Brings out other flavors (Haste), and helps enhance the key ingredient (more wood orbs)Enhances the main ingredient (more wood orbs, board change)

As you can see, every seasoning added to the dish further enhances your key ingredients of your end result (the team)

I hope this at least teaches you some good pairings, be Remy, not Emile. (look up Ratatouille)
