Mesopotamia Series Review

Mesopotamia Series Review

Mesopotamia Pantheon, I lost my cookbook.

I remember in elementary school learning about Mesopotamia, Tigris and Euphrates river, where ancient civilizations were. They are the newest pantheon to join us on the NA side of Puzzle and Dragons. I really would like to know how people cooked in like the BC Era, but since I think we’ve advanced far beyond that time period, we’ll just stick with some history lessons this time.

Courageous Demigod of Resolution, Gilgamesh

Mythical King of Mespotamia, based on poems discovered in the Epic of Gilgamesh.

Main Dish

Leader Skill:  ATK x4 when simultaneously clearing 5 connected Fire or Light orbs. ATK x2 at 4 combos. ATK x1 for each additional combo, up to ATK x6 at 8 combos.

Stats at max level:

  • HP: 3548
  • ATK: 1960
  • RCV: 98

Awokens:

ATK focused leader with no RCV or HP Buffs, probably some niche uses for farming. However, you will need to 4+ combo to get a higher multiplier than the usual. He also doesn’t carry any attack focused awokens. I don’t suggest using him as a leader.

Side Dish

Active Skill: Change right-most column into Fire orbs. Ignores enemy damage absorb effects for 1 turn ( does not include combo shield, attribute absorb, and damage void ). 25 Turns ( 20 Turns at Lv.6 )

Fujin Active addition. I think we’re at 4 or something now, I’ve lost count. But the more the merrier in my opinion because I still don’t have one at nearly 1900 days of playing. He has okay support awokens, but because he has no offensive based awokens his damage will be limited. Furthermore, he can only carry Devil or Physical Killers, which hurts him even more as a base unit for a sub. Most likely be relegated as a spice.

Spice

Fujin Active for him means he can almost always find a spot as an inherit skill. Though his addition to the fujin active isn’t as strong as say, Uruka or Hiko. His red column could be helpful if you need those orbs, but could also hurt.

Wine Pairing

Outside of fast farming purposes, I don’t think it’s worth leading him. Gilgamesh would most likely be best used as an inherit.

Water Guarding God of Wisdom, Ea

“Mischievous god of wisdom, magic and incantations who resides in the ocean under the earth.”

Main Dish

Leader Skill: No skyfall matches. Fire, Water, Wood, Light & Dark attribute cards ATK x4. Increases time limit of orb movement by 2 seconds. All attribute cards ATK x4, 25% all damage reduction when attacking with 4 of Fire, Water, Wood, Light & Dark orb types at the same time.

Stats at max level:

  • HP: 3293
  • ATK: 1200
  • RCV: 633

Awokens:

Personally, I like this leader skill. When fully activated it has x16, double leads that’s x256, count in the TPAs and she’s at x576. He also has a damage reduction at 25%, though I wish it were higher. Ea is both forgiving and not. With 4 extra seconds of move time you should be able to match all 4 colors and then some, provided you have the colors on the board. He is not forgiving in that if you need to skyfall for a color, that’s not happening. If you haven’t sacrificed your Scheats to the trading post you should consider using scheat as a sub to cover the red. Orochi and Uruka are also nice units to use to cover light and dark for the attribute requirement.

Side Dish

Active Skill: +2 combo count for 1 turn. 50% damage reduction for 1 turn.  20 Turns ( 15 Turns at Lv.6 )

TPA may not be the “in” thing right now. Off the immediate top of my head I can’t think of currently popular TPA focused teams that Ea would fit well on. However, Ea’s double color coverage of Blue/Green makes a fine replacement for Awoken Isis since Reincarnated Isis lost her green subcolor and got Red instead. If you are using Ea for a color coverage on a rainbow team you should also aim to activate the skill haste for the active skill. With the skill haste Ea’s skill should be up every 10 turns or so, depending on your situation so it’s entirely possible to see it twice.

Spice

I think there are some very nice uses for Ea. It has a 2 combo buff and a 50% shield. For some instances like needing to void penetrate with 7c (looking at you, Yusuke), not having the right number of orbs can really suck. If you have a time debuff and just need to combo to get your multipliers off this is also handy. A 50% shield stacked on any a leader skill shield can also mean the difference between life and death, or staying above HP thresholds. I’ve definitely used Al’s skill on my Ed team multiple times to make sure I don’t drop below my threshold.

Wine Pairing

You can challenge yourself a bit with a Raphael pairing to make yourself clear as much as the board as possible.

Warbeast God of Loyalty, Enkidu

According to some people, Enkidu may have been a lover of Gilgamesh. Book here.

Main Dish

Leader Skill: God type cards HP x1.5, ATK x1.5. All attribute cards ATK x5 when reaching 6 combos or above. Heal RCV x20 as HP after every orbs elimination.

Stats at max level:

  • HP: 3323
  • ATK: 1648
  • RCV: 355

Awokens:

This is very Bastet like. You get the same attack multiplier count at 6 combo instead of Bastet’s 8 combo. While you do lose out a little bit on the attack from using a skill, you also don’t have to have a sub that can pop a skill every turn like Tardis or Gunma when you’re using Enkidu. His auto heal can be helpful since his leader skill doesn’t buff RCV at all. Autoheals are also nice to to have in no RCV dungeons. He also gets Balanced typing for all kinds of killers. Green TPA is the name of the game, since you don’t need to hit 7 combo (you can if you want) the TPA focus after 6 combo would be more beneficial.

Be aware though, he can be bound so you will need to have a bind clear ready or use the unbindable badge.

Side Dish

Active Skill: Randomly spawn 4 Wood orbs from non Wood orbs. Increase skyfall chance of Wood orbs by 15% for 4 turns. All attribute cards RCV x1.5 for 4 turns.  13 Turns ( 8 Turns at Lv.6 )

Similar to Vishnu, it does have an extra turn on it, so that if you have 2 of these you can keep the skyfall up permanently. He also gives a RCV bonus for dealing with specific mechanics that reduce your RCV such as when Rei Sirius appears. He’s a 2 color coverage sub with some offensive fire power behind him since he does have triple dongers and a balanced typing. You can consider using him if you are running a focused green team to be a good contributor to damage.

Spice

For orb hungry green teams, consider his active. You’ll be able to feed 4 turns of skyfall on top of at least 1 green combo or hopefully even a row.

Wine Pairing

Try it with Bastet since they are very similar.

Solar Goddess of Justice, Shamash

I think I first read this as “Smash”, new melee character confirmed? Anyways, he’s the sun god of the pantheon, AKA Utu.

Main Dish

Leader Skill: God type cards HP x2, ATK x3. All attribute cards ATK x3 when attacking with 4 of following orb types: Fire, Water, Wood, Light & Dark. ATK x1 for each additional orb type, up to ATK x4 for all 5 matches.

Stats at max level:

  • HP: 3453
  • ATK: 1535
  • RCV: 383

Awokens:

It’s a rainbow leader with a high base multiplier. Compared to Ra Dra who has 1.5x to all, Shamash forfeits the rcv bonus and dumps it into ATK and HP only. Shamash also doesn’t have any TPA or offensive awokens, but can take any kind of killer. Both of them share the same god typing restriction. So if you have a Ra dragon team but never bought Ra dragon, you can use Shamash.

Side Dish

Active Skill: Reduce 30% of all enemies’ HP. Ignore enemy element and defense. Bind recovery for 3 turns.Awoken Bind recovery for 3 turns.  25 Turns ( 20 Turns at Lv.6 )

I like this active because it’s kind of a multi tool. I probably over value multi function actives more than others. The gravity is a nice to have thing, the key point is that it can be hasted, which makes for dealing with lots of resolve units easier if you don’t have FUA, or if the resolve unit has something like a combo shield and you don’t want to use a board change or can’t get enough hearts on a board change to FUA.

I’m glad they are adding in more awoken bind recovery cards as Odindra is really still one of the most powerful cards for that choice. So having some options that can also deal with the common Folklore awoken bind is good to have as an option. Shamash being unbindable is also very important for the active since you will always be able to use his active to unbind other cards and you won’t get screwed if you need to awoken bind clear. Again, the skill haste allows the bind clears to be up faster than the cooldown would imply.

Spice

I think I’d be inheriting him for his bind clear utility more than his gravity utility. It’s a long cooldown so it might be more useful for a fake SDR on top of your sub that does bind clears.

Wine Pairing

Ra and Ra dragon come to mind for funsies.

Chthonic Goddess of the Underworld, Allatu

Every mythos has a death god, Mesopotamia mythos is no different. You can learn a bit about her here

Main Dish

Leader Skill: Change the board to 7×6 size. Increases time limit of orb movement by 5 seconds. ATK x2.5 for clearing each Fire, Water or Dark orbs in a cross formation.

Stats at max level:

  • HP: 3765
  • ATK: 1745
  • RCV: 163

Awokens:

I thought we would get away with a whole pantheon that didn’t have any 7c. I guess I was wrong. She’s a 7×6 leader that likes to play with crosses. She also happens to like the same three colors that Haku brings to the table, and Typhon brings to the table with the same things except with hearts on top of it. If you want to practice multicrossing on a 7×6 board I think she’s a great lead to have, since you have to do multiple crosses to get any attack multiplier, but she also brings 5 seconds of extra move time for you to do so. At the very least she can carry god killers. She is bindable though, so you will need some way to mitigate that.

Side Dish

Active Skill:  Delay 3 turns to all enemies. Change all orbs to Fire, Water & Dark orbs. 20 Turns ( 15 Turns at Lv.6 )

It’s Haku’s board change but you’re replacing the haste with a 3 turn delay. The cooldown isn’t that bad, and there are definitely even sub bosses or situations for harder dungeons where you can delay if you need to. At one point in the meta we moved away from “nothing is threatening until the boss, and the boss as a preemptive shield” to “okay there are some threatening units in this floor, but you can delay them as an option”. I personally prefer the direction we’ve moved to, rather than removing delays as a thing entirely. Any combo heavy team that needs a board changer can consider using her as a sub since she does have 2 7cs to help boost her damage.

Spice

In the current top tier teams, Blonia teams could use her as an inherit. If your combo team is set you can inherit her as another board changer.

Wine Pairing

You know who else loves crosses that just came out and that would be fun to play with? Planar.
