Japanese 1 Pantheon uses

Continuing our look back, Japanese 1

A few weeks ago I did the Greco-Roman 1 retrospective for how to use them in the current state of Puzzle and Dragons.

Overall the Japanese 1  Gods are a smattering of utility skills, none of them are going to be super stars all the time, but they all can have a very specialized role when creating teams.

Hino Kagutsuchi

If you ever needed to go back to do tri monster challenge in the Tower of Giants and other normal dungeons but can’t be bothered to really do any comboing, Hino is the lead to go with at this point.

Stats:

  • HP: 5550
  • ATK: 1960
  • RCV: 160

Awokens and Skills

Awokens:

Super Awoken options:

Active Skill:  Reduce enemies’ defense by 75% for 2 turns. Effects carry forward on sweep. Change Water orbs to Fire orbs, Heart orbs to Dark orbs. 12 Turns ( 7 Turns at Lv.6 )

Key Points:

  • 75% defense reduction, not a full defense break but might be enough if you need it, the defense break also lasts 2 turns.
  • Can take up to 5 TPAs, Unbindable.
  • Cloud resist is still fairly new and can be useful in some dungeons like the White Whale Dungeon. Skyozoroa link (site’s in Chinese, PDX doesn’t have the dungeon up yet)

Fitting in with other subs

For the most part Red TPA teams fit well with him. He also provides dark orbs if that’s something you need for your team as well. If you need a full 2 color board you can try to combo his skill into another such as the case with a Weld board change with a Hino active.

Team Fit

  • Is it TPA focused?
  • Do you need a Defense reduction active?

Hino’s active isn’t too bad, especially if you’re running something like Planar. For the most part though I’d probably relegate him to fast farming low level dungeons as a lead.

Viper Orochi

At one point he was considered one of the best leaders because you could zombie team with him and he had a long delay. While Zombie teams are now only occasionally a team, his delay is still extremely valuable.

Stats

  • HP: 6760
  • ATK: 1100
  • RCV: 312

Awokens and Skills

Super Awoken Options

Active Skill: Delay 4 turns to all enemies. 19 Turns ( 15 Turns at Lv.5 )

Key Points

  • TPA for Days. He will need them to do any damage since his base ATK is low at 1100.
  • HP Stat stick, he can also take a team HP Super Awoken.
  • Can do Guard break if you absolutely need it.

Fitting in with other subs

Given the number of skill ups you are running it’s not entirely uncommon to have him as an inherit more than a sub. In the cases that you do want to run him as a sub, you probably are running a shorter dungeon in solo mode like Noah in certain Challenge dungeons without stalling for skills or have low skill boosts. With the 5 turn delay you can stall out the shield and then kill her before she puts one up. Other than that, possibly using him for a stat stick. He’ll work better on blue teams that are also TPA focused to synergize since his ATK score is fairly low.

Team Fit

  • Do I need this delay and when do I need it?

This is probably the only question you really need to ask when deciding how to use Orochi on the team. If you don’t have the SB and don’t want to stall but need the delay, maybe sub him, if you can get his skill up in time when you need it based on your inherits, then that’s fine too.

Susano no Mikoto

Art is the “you vs the person your SO tells you not to worry about” level. Look at it:

He’s still got a strong shield, however it’s not seen quite as often now. Double color coverage and Dragon typing had some people using him for RaDra teams at times.

Stats

  • HP: 5270
  • ATK: 1686
  • RCV: 408

Awokens and Skills

Awokens:

Super Awoken Options:

Active Skill:  50% damage reduction for 3 turns. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn. 15 Turns ( 11 Turns at Lv.5 )

Perhaps the most attractive thing in this set is his active. It’s not quite Indra’s 80%, but it does last a bit longer and isn’t as week as something like Isis.

Key Points

  • Unbindable and carries a bind clear. But does not generate hearts on his own.
  • 3 Turn shield on 11 turn Cooldown means really only 8 turns of downtime. Can easily be up on first floor.
  • No SBR, be mindful when building out a team.

Fitting in with other subs

Susano works best in TPA teams. He is still useable outside of TPA teams, but he won’t be carrying much damage unless you do a TPA match. Ultimately his role will be to shield and keep you alive. With Zela out, he can be a useable sub or an inherit to make sure that large hits don’t take you under your threshold. The good thing about his shield is that is’a  longer duration than most and will most likely be able to carry over for you. The haste is almost always a welcome rider on skills. This shield can override other shields though so be mindful if you are running co op or multiplayer.

Team Fit

  • How many big hits are there?

He’s closer to a niche sub, much like Orochi. Depending on your team and the dungeon, you may find his skill incredibly useful, or not needed at all. It’s always important to tailor your team to the dungeon.

Amaterasu Ohkami

So there’s actually a pretty distinct difference for her non REvo form and her Uevo Form for her active.

Stats

  • HP: 4150
  • ATK: 1111
  • RCV: 1088

Awokens and Skills

Awokens

Super Awoken Options

Active Skill: Recover 40% of max HP. Bind recovery for 4 turns. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn. ( 8 Turns at Lv.5 )

Non-Revo version Active:  Full HP recovery. Full bind recovery. ( 10 Turns at Lv.11 )

Key Points

  • High RCV
  • Double SBR
  • Heal is based off of Max HP, does unbinding, and a haste. Does not recover from Awoken Binds!

Fitting in with other subs

The 2 color coverage and light main color coverage make her a useable option for teams that needs to meet HP requirements like Yog. She was also a key inherit in the most recent Rikuu Tournament due to her haste in getting some board changer actives out. The cooldown on her active is short enough that you may actually even see it twice if you are using her as a base sub. The 2 color coverage can help in cases where you need to fill all attributes. In her non reincarnated version she does a full heal and a full bind recovery. For some teams this can be a fun interaction to have, like Satan Void. Since Satan can’t actually self heal, an active like Amaterasu will full heal and allow you to keep going.

Team Fit

She fits great on a team like Yog and Edward if you are stretching for subs. The haste will get other orb changers out faster, the heal will keep you above threshold.

Tsukuyomi

Full disclosure, this is my TE crutch.

I adore this unit. It really helped me learn to combo a little better when I first started because of the 4 TE awokens. It even has specific uses now. Like Amaterasu, has a different non-awoken/revo active.

Stats

  • HP 5415
  • ATK 1841
  • RCV 272

Awokens and Skills

Awokens

Super Awokens

Active Skill: Enhance Fire, Water, Wood, Light, Dark & Heart orbs. +6% per orb. Increases time limit of orb movement by 5 seconds for 3 turns. ( 8 Turns at Lv.5 )

Non-Awoken/Revo Active:  God type cards ATK x2.5 for 1 turn. Give 10 seconds to move orbs without triggering matches. ( 13 Turns at Lv.8 )

Key Points

  • 4 TE, that’s 2 seconds of move time
  • 7c Super Awoken, or Tape resist

2 seconds of move time is a lot. I use it as my crutch when I need to. The Reincarnated version is probably my preferred because of the 5 second move time for 3 turns. The non-Awoken version has a change the world effect once, and a small burst. Her best use I’ve found is dealing with Dark Izanami’s time reduction attack, or any time reduction attack because the cooldown is already low, even if you do run into Dark Izanami on the first floor, you will have an answer for it.

Fitting in with other subs

If you’ve got a team that’s using OE (dark OE preferred) the active should always get you your activation you need for sparkle board. Extra move time gets overwritten as well, so if you have a move time buff already, the newer one will just override. So you can’t use a Diao Chan and Tsukyomi at the same time for extra extra time.

Team Fit

If you are learning to combo, using any combo team with her on the team can be helpful. Anubis, Diablos, and Kushinada are common choices. It’s possible to use her on non- dark teams as well if you want to just get used to solving boards.
